Robinson runner-up for Player of the Year, All-ACC First Team; Bowman tabbed as All-ACC Honorable Mention
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Jerome Robinson and Ky Bowman were each honored by the Atlantic Coast Conference today as part of its All-Conference teams.
Robinson was named to the All-ACC First Team and was runner-up in voting for the league's Player of the Year, receiving 14 votes from the 57-member voting panel (15 ACC head coaches; 42 selected media). Duke's Marvin Bagley III was voted as the ACC's top player, earning 37 votes.
Robinson was a near-virtual unanimous selection to the All-ACC first team. He finished the regular season as the league's scoring leader, averaging 20.7 points per game, percentage points ahead of Bagley III. In league play, the junior guard was dominant - scoring at a 24.3 points per game clip during the ACC's 18-game slate. He also led the league in 3-point FG percentage, making 43.8% (74-169) of his attempts beyond the arc - including 44.5% (49-110) in league play. Robinson also ranked among the league leaders in overall field goal percentage, free throw percentage, and 3-pointers made.
The Raleigh, N.C. native led the ACC with 16 games of 20 points or more - including 13 during conference play. Robinson put forth one of the most dominant performances in ACC history, going off for 46 points at Notre Dame on Feb. 6. Robinson's 46 points were the most by a visiting player in a conference game in ACC history, dating back to 1953-54. It also tied as the fourth-best single-game scoring total in a conference game and 17th-best overall (all games).
He was named the CBS Sports National Player of the Week on Feb. 7 and the ACC Player of the Week on Feb. 11. On Dec. 2 at Hartford, Robinson became the 42nd player to score 1,000 career points, becoming the ninth-fastest Eagle to reach the scoring milestone. Robinson was an All-ACC honorable mention selection a season ago.
Bowman earned a spot on the league's All-ACC honorable mention list. The sophomore point guard is the only player in the country to average at least 16.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.8 assists. He is also the only player in the ACC to rank in the top 10 in scoring and assists and top 15 in rebounding.
The Havelock, N.C. native has registered five double-doubles in points and rebounds and is averaging 6.7 rebounds per game - both totals are tops nationally among all players 6-1 and under. He scored 20 or more points on nine occasions. His best performance of the season came in Boston College's win over top-ranked Duke, narrowly missing a triple-double with 30 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists. He was named ACC Player of the Week on Dec. 11.
He needs 19 more points to join Boston College's 1,000 career point club and has a chance to tie Robinson for ninth-fastest to 1,000 while achieving the feat in 64 games. Bowman was named to the ACC All-Freshman team a year ago.
Widely regarded as one of the nation's top backcourts, Robinson and Bowman finished the regular season as the top scoring duo in the ACC - combining for 37.6 points per game. Robinson and/or Bowman have led BC in scoring in the last 18 games and in 27 of 31 games this season.
