The Eagles erased an 11-point deficit with 3:57 left in regulation before falling, 85-80, in overtime to Virginia Tech on Wednesday night.
Trailing 66-55 with 3:57, BC closed out regulation on a 16-5 push. Jerome Robinson keyed the run, scoring the Eagles last seven points - including five from the charity stripe with 22 seconds to play to tie it at 71-71. The junior guard's potential game-winning 3-pointer with two seconds left rattled in-and-out, forcing the five extra minutes.
In overtime, Virginia Tech connected on 5-of-7 from the floor, including two 3-pointers, outscoring Boston College, 14-9.
Both teams played an even first five minutes to start the game before Robinson scored BC's next 11 points - including a stretch of three consecutive 3-pointers. Boston College led by as many as eight points in the first half, after a 3-pointer by Ky Bowman made it 24-16 with 7:29 left. The Hokies' 6-0 run over the final 40 seconds of the half helped them to a 34-29 halftime lead as BC shot 1-of-7 from the floor to close the half.
In the second half, the Hokies opened up an 11-point lead - 42-31 - with 16:47 to play. But BC would counter with a 16-6 push, capped by a Jordan Chatman jumper, and cut it to one - 48-47 - with 13:01 to play. Virginia Tech countered with a 14-4 run and held a comfortable lead until the BC run to close out regulation with less than four minutes left.
