Gritty, Short-Handed Eagles Drop Decision at Nebraska
November 30, 2017 | Men's Basketball
Jerome Robinson leads Boston College with 17 points
How It Happened:
Boston College battled from 11 points down in the second half, playing without two starters, but fell, 71-62, at Nebraska. Jordan Chatman did not dress for the game and the Eagles lost leading rebounder and third leading scorer Deontae Hawkins midway through the first half.
The Eagles fell behind by nine points - 19-10 - with 13:08 left in the first half before using an 8-2 push to cut it to three. A jumper by Hawkins made it 21-18 with 10:01 to go. The graduate student landed awkwardly and left the game with 7:46 to go in the half. BC got within two with 3:31 remaining in the period, but the Huskers closed on an 11-5 run, capped by a 3-pointer as time expired, to take a 44-36 lead into halftime.
Nebraska would extend its lead to 11 (49-38) with 18:09 to play before a gritty BC squad battled back. Johncarlos Reyes scored four points during a 9-0 run, capped by a 3-pointer from Steffon Mitchell which made it 49-47 with 14:40 to go. Vin Baker Jr.'s trifecta with 10:08 to play cut it to one - 51-50 - but that was as close as the Eagles would get. Nebraska's 14-2 run over the next 6:20 put the game out of reach.
