Postgame Quotes: North Carolina

Boston College vs. #9/9 North Carolina

Boston College Head Coach Jim Christian
On the first half performance by Bowman…
"I know in a game like this, where there is going to be transition, he's going to be really good. He's a catalyst and he is a very confident player so nobody on our team is surprised. He's very aggressive. For him, he's probably looking at his turnovers and how to clean that up. Good players capitalize on the opportunities they are given and fix the things that can be fixed."
On the overall play of North Carolina…
"To me, the game was won by them and lost by us. In the second half, we let them drive the ball downhill where we stopped them in the first. The offensive rebounding opportunities they got from us cost us the game in my mind."
On Jerome Robinson performance…
"We had talked after the Virginia game and said it's okay to have a bad shooting night, but you better make plays out there for other people. If you want to be one of the best players on the team and in the league, go get seven assists, go get eight rebounds, go get five steals, and today he missed his first couple shots but he was creating a lot of opportunities for other guys. Sure they made some and missed some but they were the right plays and because of that, his opportunities came later in the second half because now they had to respect him driving the ball and being able to kick it to an open shooter. I was proud of him, even when he wasn't making shots he was guarding, hustling and helping the other guys on the team."
Freshman guard Ky Bowman
On playing against a team he grew up rooting for…
"I had a lot of stuff going on in my mind last night and I decided I just needed to let it all go. I just wanted to focus on the game today so that was the big thing for me. I just wanted to keep up with my teammates, make sure everyone was getting touches out there and really get the whole team involved."
North Carolina Head Coach Roy Williams
On the performance by Ky Bowman…
"Well, we are excited to come on the road to win an ACC game but for a while it was the Ky Bowman show. He was unbelievable. I am fairly certain several years ago I got a call asking if I would ever let a football player play basketball on my team and I said yes. They said there was a kid from Havelock that was being recruited very hard to play football and he's good at basketball too. I guess they recruit here better. He was something. I've watched three tapes on him and to start the first half they had six three pointers and Ky had five of them."
On the young BC backcourt…
"They can score. They are both athletic, quick, can jump and all those things that make a scorer. Kenny Williams thought he had Robinson covered one time and he pulled up and shot a three right in his face. Coming into this we knew who the leading scorers were and we had trouble stopping them. One had 33 and the other had 18. This is a big time league and those two kids are very, very good."
On North Carolina's defensive play…
"We've been up and down more than I would like us to be. I thought we could perform on a more consistent basis. As for field goal percentage, our defense was pretty good last year and I don't think we are anywhere close to that right now."
