KEY PLAYS
- The Eagles led 7-3 after the fifth inning but gave up three runs in the seventh to make it a one-run game.
- Adams entered the game in the eighth and shut the GT down, preserving the BC win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles scored first, notching a run in the first inning. Palomaki started the game with a single through the right side and with one down, junior Nick Sciortino laced one up the middle to put runners on the corners. Cronin doubles down the left-field line to plate Palomaki, scoring the first run of the game.
- BC three in the second to take a 4-0 lead. Senior Logan Hoggarth led off with single and with one out, senior Gabriel Hernandez knocked a base hit to left. Palomaki drove both runs in with a double down the right-field line. The Jackets went to the bullpen for RHP Zach Ryan, who gave up a double to Strem to bring in another BC score. Ryan got a strikeout and fly out to end the inning.
- GT got a run back in the third. Wade Bailey drew a lead-off walk and moved to second on a bunt single. Kel Johnson plated him with a single to left center. The Eagles turned a double play and freshman right-handed starter Jacob Stevens got a fly out to end the inning.
- Both teams scored a run in the fourth to make it 5-2 BC lead. Sophomore Mitch Bigras led off with a double to the corner in right and Hernandez moved him to third with a sac bunt. Palomaki notched his third RBIs of the day with a single through the left side.
- Sophomore RHP Brian Rapp entered the game and got a strikeout to start the inning, but surrendered a solo shot to Ryan Peurifoy. He then got another K before loading the bases on a two singles and a walk. Rapp got himself of the jam and his third K of the inning.
- In the fifth, Cronin launched a two-run home run over the wall in left center with Sciortino, who tallied a lead-off single, to put the Eagles up, 7-2.
- The Jackets got one back in the bottom of the frame. Brandt Stallings recorded a two-out triple to center off Rapp and sophomore RHP Donovan Casey came on in relief. He gave up an infield hit – a dribbler off the mound – to plate a run – before issuing a walk and getting out of the inning with a chopper to second.
- Georgia Tech scored three in the seventh off redshirt sophomore RHP Bobby Skogsbergh to make it a 7-6 game. Three singles loaded the bases before Skogsbergh got a strikeout looking for the first out. He then got one back to the mound and went home for the force out. The throw down to first was just late, extending the inning. Bailey came up with a full-count single through the right side to plate two and Matt Gonzalez followed with a base hit to center to pull the Yellow Jackets within one. Skogsbergh got a grounder to short to get out of the inning.
