April 14, 2016 | Men's Basketball
Pair will play at The Heights beginning in the fall
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College men's basketball has added two more players for the 2016-17 season: guard Kyran Bowman (Havelock, N.C.) and graduate student forward Connar Tava (Macomb, Mich.).

KYRAN BOWMAN
Position: Guard
Height: 6-2
Weight: 175
Hometown: Havelock, N.C.
High School: Havelock
Earned all-state honors as a senior after averaging 23.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.4 steals … named the 2016 Sun Journal Boys Basketball Player of the Year … scored 1,813 points in four seasons, averaging 24.1 in the last three years … led Havelock to the fourth round of the NCHSAA 3A playoffs after posting a perfect record in conference play and winning the Coastal 3A regular season and conference titles … scored 21 points and was named North Carolina's Most Valuable Player at the Carolina's All-Star Basketball Classic … recorded 43 points and 10 rebounds in the final game of his high school career … originally committed to North Carolina to play football as a wide receiver in 2014 … chose Boston College over Cincinnati, California, Memphis, Tulsa, and others.
Havelock Head Coach Daniel Griffee: "Kyran Bowman is the most explosive, athletic, savvy and toughest player I have ever coached. He is the complete package with the ability to blow by defenders, finish strong above the rim, knock down 3-pointers, handle the ball, rebound, and play lock-down defense. Kyran has the intangibles everyone talks about but never sees until he is in your program. He will not be outworked or outplayed. He is a team-first player whose leadership off the floor carries over into more 'Ws' for the team. The future is very bright with a lot of upside for Kyran. He will bring tenacity on the defensive end of the floor and fill up the highlight reel with his assortment of dunks."
Boston College Head Coach Jim Christian: "We are extremely excited about the addition of Kyran to our 2016 recruiting class. Ky gives us a tough, hard-nosed leader whose competitive spirit will become infectious to his teammates. A gifted athlete, he is explosive and fast, and plays the game to win. Ky is a high-character guy that comes from a great family. He is a huge addition to our program."

CONNAR TAVA
Position: Forward
Height: 6-6
Weight: 245
Hometown: Macomb, Mich.
High School: Warren De La Salle
Previous School: Western Michigan
Transferring from Western Michigan as a graduate student and will be able to play immediately … missed all of last season recovering from a broken foot … a two-time All-MAC Honorable Mention player as a sophomore and junior … named to the Preseason All-MAC West Team prior to last season … led the Broncos in rebounding (6.2), field goal percentage (.521) and assists (3.3), and was second on the team in scoring (12.3) as a junior … ranked 17th in the MAC in scoring, 11th in rebounding, sixth in field goal percentage and ninth in assists that season … averaged 11.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists as a sophomore when WMU won the MAC tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
Western Michigan Head Coach Steve Hawkins: "I am extremely happy for Connar. It was always his goal to diversify his education by getting his undergraduate and MBA degrees at different universities. He found a great academic institution in Boston College. He will represent the Eagles just as he has Western Michigan for the past four years; with high character and integrity. Jimmy Christian and I are great friends and have known each other a long time. When this opportunity for Connar presented itself, I told Coach Christian they are getting not only a great basketball player but an outstanding young man. Connar's versatility at times allowed him to play positions 1-5. I call him a point-forward. He was a huge part of our Mid-American Conference championship in 2014 and led us in assists from a power-forward spot, which makes him very unique. I can't wait to follow Connar as I know he will find continued success."
Boston College Head Coach Jim Christian: "Connar addresses an important need for our program in the front court. His experience coupled with his toughness and skill will enable him to make a huge impact for us right away. He is a proven winner at the Division I level and we are expecting big things from him next year."
