CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Freshman Shamari Spears netted a team-high 23 points and senior Jared Dudley tallied 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead 15th-ranked Boston College to an 86-47 win over New Hampshire before 5,716 fans in Conte Forum.
Senior Sean Marshall totaled 13 points and seven rebounds to round out the victor's list of double-digit scorers.
Spears scored the first points of the 2006-07 season with two free throws 13 seconds into the game. After Marshall gave BC a 4-0 lead 51 seconds into the game, the visiting Wildcats answered with three consecutive three-pointers to claim a 9-4 margin.
After a Dudley lay-in was matched by a UNH field goal, the Eagles took charge. BC used a 14-0 run - led by five Spears points and four Dudley points - to take a 20-11 advantage.
The Eagles extended their margin to 22 points - 40-18 - on a Tyrese Rice free throw with 1:48 left in the half. BC settled for a 42-24 halftime margin.
UNH never got closer than 17 points in the second half.
Game Notes: BC shot 57.7 percent from the field, including a blistering 68.0 percent in the second half ... the Eagles outrebounded the Wildcats, 47-20 ... Rice finished with seven points and a game-high five assists ... BC hit four three-point field goals (one each for Dudley, Oates, Marshall and Marquez Haynes) ... The Eagles had the opportunity to convert four "old-fashioned" three-point plays, and made three of the four ensuing free throws ... Haynes provided the season's first "highlight reel" play, taking an alley-oop feed from Marshall and rising above all defenders for a thunderous dunk with 6:02 remaining in the contest ... Junior Tyrelle Blair recorded four blocked shots - three in the first half and one in the second half.
