
Men's Basketball Earns Overtime Victory

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Sophomore Craig Smith scored 20 points and freshman Jared Dudley netted 14 points, including three in overtime, to lift Boston College to a 66-65 overtime victory over North Carolina State before 5,573 fans in Conte Forum.
Senior Uka Agbai added 13 points and freshman Sean Marshall contributed 12 points to complete BC's list of double-figure scorers.
Smith, who has now scored 20 or more points in seven of the last eight games, also grabbed 10 rebounds to record his seventh double-double of the season.
North Carolina State shot 4-for-4 from the foul line in the final minute of regulation to tie the game at 61-61 and force the extra session. BC took a 61-57 lead on an Agbai tip-in of a Smith missed shot with 1:15 to play. The visiting Wolfpack missed a three-point attempt on their next trip down court, but BC missed the front end of a 1-and-1 free-throw opportunity. After NC State closed to within two, BC missed a three-point attempt on its next possession. The visitors sank two free throws with 22.5 seconds remaining to knot the score. BC's Smith missed a short jump shot at the end of regulation.
In overtime, Smith and NC State's Ilian Evtimov each made one free throw in the first minute to keep the score even. A field goal by Dudley gave BC a two-point cushion with 2:48 remaining on the clock.
While North Carolina State committed three turnovers and missed one field-goal attempt in the next 2:30, BC couldn't extend its advantage. Two missed shots and one BC turnover left the score at 64-62, before freshmen Dudley and Marshall each made one free throw to give the Eagles a 66-62 lead with 4.6 seconds to play. NC State's Julius Hodge, who finished with a game-high 25 points, hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to account for the final score.
After leading 27-26 at halftime, BC found itself trailing by as many as seven points in the second half. The Wolfpack led 50-43 and 52-45. The Eagles used a 7-0 run to even the score at 52-52 with 7:40 remaining in regulation. Neither team led by more than two points until Agbai's tip-in that gave BC a 61-57 advantage.
Game Notes: Boston College shot just 9-for-19, 47.4 percent, from the foul line. North Carolina State, meanwhile, converted 11-of-13 free throws, 84.6 percent ... BC gained a slim 43-42 rebounding edge ... After recording eight turnovers in the first half, BC committed just four turnovers the rest of the way to finish with 12. The Wolfpack turned the ball over 19 times ... Smith made four steals, including two in overtime ... BC is now 3-0 in overtime this season.
