
Men's Basketball Holds Off Stony Brook, 82-64

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Sophomore Craig Smith registered 21 points and 11 rebounds and freshman Jared Dudley scored 18 points to lead Boston College to an 82-64 non-league win over Stony Brook before 3,423 fans in Conte Forum.
For Smith, the game marked his fourth point-rebound double-double this season and the 14th of his collegiate career. It also marked his 19th collegiate game with at least 20 points.
Senior D.J. Munir led Stony Brook with 19 points. Freshman Mitchell Beauford added 15 points for the Seawolves.
Boston College (9-1) shot 56.7 percent in the first half and led 42-30 at the break. Smith led BC with 11 first-half points.
The host Eagles maintained their advantage early in the second half, before Stony Brook (3-5) rallied. Trailing 47-34 with 17:14 remaining in the game, the Seawolves used a 20-11 run to trim the BC margin to just four points -- 58-54 -- with 10:57 to play. Munir scored eight points in this stretch.
BC responded with 10 unanswered points to thwart the Stony Brook comeback effort. Dudley scored five points in the Eagles' three-minute rally. The Seawolves never got closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
BC shot a blistering 70.8 percent from the floor in the second half and finished the game shooting 63.0 percent, the team's highest single-game percentage since shooting 66.7 percent at Virginia Tech on Jan. 29, 2003.
Game Notes: Craig Smith recorded four steals for the third straight game ... Smith hit 10 field goals for the second time this season ... Senior Uka Agbai added 10 points to register his seventh double-figure scoring effort of the season ... Freshman Steve Hailey led BC with five assists ... BC made a season-high 13 steals ... Sophomore Louis Hinnant and freshman Sean Marshall, who both went scoreless in the Eagles' previous game, combined to score the team's first 10 points. Marshall scored BC's first seven points, before Hinnant hit a three-point field goal ... BC gained a slim 26-25 rebounding edge.
