CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Senior Kenny Walls and sophomore Ryan Sidney both scored 26 points to lead Boston College to an 88-65 non-league win over Penn State before a crowd of 4,428 in Conte Forum.
The victory marked Boston College head coach Al Skinner's 200th collegiate coaching victory. It also gave BC its 21st consecutive home triumph.
Walls recorded a team-high 10 rebounds to register his first collegiate double-double. Sidney added eight rebounds, six assists and four steals.
Boston College led 13-8 with 14:10 to play in the opening half, before using a 10-0 run in a two-minute span to gain a 23-8 advantage. Penn State answered with a 7-2 rally to close to within 10 points -- 25-15 -- with 8:01 remaining in the first half, before the host Eagles closed the half with a 22-11 run to lead 47-26 at the intermission.
Walls led BC with 19 first-half points, including 5-of-6 shooting from three-point range. Walls also hit five first-half three-pointers in the season opener against Boston University. Sidney netted 16 points before the break.
The Nittany Lions never trimmed the BC lead to fewer than 15 points in the second half. BC led by as many as 33 points -- at 76-43 and 78-45.
Game Notes: BC outrebounded Penn State, 45-29 ... Walls finished the game with six three-point field goals, equaling Troy Bell's effort at Miami on Jan. 7, 2001 ... Walls and Sidney each finished with more than 20 points, marking the second consecutive game in which two BC players have reached that mark ... Junior Troy Bell scored 10 points to round out BC's list of double-figure scorers ... BC shot 55.7 percent from the field, while Penn State shot 40.3 percent.
