CHESTNUT HILL - Sophomore guard Troy Bell scored 24 points to lead four Boston College players in double figures as the host Eagles defeated Youngstown State, 93-65, before 3,015 fans at Conte Forum.
Joining Bell in double digits were sophomore Uka Agbai (15 points), senior Xavier Singletary (13) and junior Kenny Walls (12). Senior Kenny Harley grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for BC.
For the second consecutive game, Boston College (6-0) used an early surge to take control of the contest. The Eagles led 11-2 just four minutes into the game, and extended its margin to 27-5 with 10:53 remaining in the first half. Walls scored all 12 of his points in this early stretch, while Bell contributed nine.
Youngstown State's Craig Haese sank a three-pointer to trim the BC advantage to 27-8, but the Penguins could never draw any closer. BC led by as many as 29 points -- 50-21 -- before settling for a 50-25 halftime lead.
BC forced 12 YSU turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
Youngstown State (5-3) opened the second half with a three-pointer, before BC extended its lead even further. BC junior Brian Ross and senior Nicolas Dunn netted back-to-back three-pointers late in the second half to give the Eagles their largest lead at 90-53.
Stephen Flores led the Youngstown State attack with 14 points. TeJay Anderson added 12 points and nine rebounds.
Game Notes: Boston College forced 24 turnovers, marking the fifth time in six games this season the Eagles have forced more than 20 opponent miscues ... BC was outrebounded, 48-43. BC had outrebounded its opponent in each of its first five games ... BC made a season-high 16 steals, one more than it made in its previous contest -- against Holy Cross ... Agbai attempted a career-high 14 free throws against the Penguins. Twice before -- once last season and once this season -- he'd attempted 10 free throws. He made nine of his 14 attempts, equaling his single-game best (set last year at Vanderbilt) ... Bell's 24-point effort marked his 16 collegiate game with 20 or more points. BC is 10-6 in those contests ... Walls scored all 12 of his points in the first half of today's game. In the Eagles' last three games, Walls has scored 36 points -- 34 in the first half, two in the second half.
