CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Sophomore guard Troy Bell tallied a game-high 26 points and two of his teammates -- seniors Xavier Singletary and Kenny Harley -- registered point-rebound double-doubles to lead Boston College to a 74-65 non-league win over Marist before a crowd of 2,729 fans at Conte Forum.
Harley, who finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds, continued his 2000-01 streak of double-doubles. The senior has now registered double-digits in points and rebounds in each of the Eagles' three games.
Singletary recorded 10 points and 10 rebounds, his first double-double at Boston College. Sophomore forward Uka Agbai was the fourth Eagle to score in double figures, posting 11 points.
The visiting Red Foxes led by six points at 23-17 with 8:04 to play in the opening half, before the Eagles closed the half with an 18-7 run to gain a 35-30 lead at the intermission. Agbai scored five points, while Bell and senior Jonathan Beerbohm each added four points in the rally.
Marist narrowed the BC lead to 41-40 with 14:56 remaining, before BC rallied again. The host Eagles outscored the Red Foxes, 17-8, over the next seven minutes to take a 58-48 lead. Bell exploded for 10 points in the run.
Marist answered with five consecutive points, but the Eagles regrouped and never allowed the visitors to climb any closer.
Game Notes: Harley is the first BC player to record three consecutive double-doubles since Danya Abrams '97 accomplished the feat late in the 1995-96 season. Abrams registered his consecutive double-doubles against Pittsburgh (18 points, 11 rebounds in the BIG EAST Tournament), Syracuse (31 points, 12 rebounds in the BIG EAST Tournament) and Indiana (22 points, 17 rebounds in the NCAA Tournament). Abrams, incidentally, recorded four consecutive double-doubles during the month of February 1995 ... BC outrebounded Marist, 45-35. The Eagles grabbed 18 offensive rebounds for the second time this season (also against St. Peter's in the season opener).
