Catherine Raster is the Assistant Director of Mental Health Counseling in the Sports Medicine Department. On a daily basis, Raster provides one-on-one therapy to athletes, collaborates with other personnel in the sports med department and supports coaches and teams in enhancing the mental health of all BC athletes.
She attended IUPUI, where she obtained a BSW in Social Work and competed as a student-athlete in women's soccer. She earned her masters in social work from Boston College and is now an LICSW in Massachusetts.
Professionally, Raster has worked with youth in outpatient care, providing sports-based group and individual therapy. She also has experience in private practice, working with young adult athletes experiencing depression, anxiety, eating disturbances, and other mental health challenges. Personally, Raster comes from a large family of athletes in the Midwest and has experienced first hand the joys and challenges of being a student-athlete. She has coached high school and academy soccer teams and still plays soccer in rec leagues around the Boston area. She aims to combine her clinical and sports experience to empower and support the athletes here at BC.
“I like to think of the therapy space as holding up a mirror for the client to see and experience their whole selves - the joys, the struggles, and everything in between. This time for self-reflection and growth in self-awareness is transformative in becoming a better athlete, leader, and overall human.”
