The Student-Athlete Advisory Council participates is many community-driven programs. Below is a listing of some of the most popular programs that our student-athletes volunteer their time to, as well as other programming SAAC is involved in planning.Â
HEAR Program (Help Educate Through Athletic Responsibility)Â
- In this program a group of 5-9 student-athletes visit local elementary schools in the neighborhood. Each athlete tells a short (about 2 minutes) encouraging, motivating story about themselves. We want to send a message to those children to work hard in school, respect others, follow their dreams, and any other life lesson that a student-athlete would like to share. In the end there is time for questions. For example "Do you play any other sports?", "What is your favorite food?", "What is your favorite subject?" etc...
Franciscan Children's HospitalÂ
- Each month a group of 20 or so student-athletes visits the hospital. Once we get there the group is divided into smaller groups which then visit different units in the hospital. There is always one group that goes to the gym, and other activities include arts and crafts, karaoke, reading aloud, and playing in the day care.
Food for Families ProgramÂ
- On the second Wednesday of every month a group or team helps package and distribute 350 bags of groceries supplied by the Boston Food Bank, to needy families at the Commonwealth Housing Development. We pack up the food into bags and then bring them to where they will be distributed.
Other EventsÂ
- Resume WorkshopsÂ
- Welcome Back PicnicÂ
- First-Year OrientationÂ
- Cookie DecoratingÂ
- Clothing DriveÂ
- Food DriveÂ
- Adopt-a-child
Come on up to BC!Â
- Every year, Boston College Athletics donates tickets to men's and women's sporting events to our neighbors. Whether it is children at local elementary schools or to seniors at many local senior centers, we encourage children and families to come and cheer on BC.
- Deaf Field Day included 750 hearing impaired students from across the state of Massachusetts and New England. The students are transported to the BC campus by bus and spend several hours being entertained at Boston College's Flynn Recreation Complex.
