
Christian Cavaliere '20 Qualifies for 123rd U.S. Open

The Katonah, N.Y. product becomes the first BC golfer since Matt Naumec in 2019 to earn a spot in the major golf championship
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Former Boston College golfer Christian Cavaliere earned a spot in the field of the 123rd U.S. Open, held June 15-18 at the Los Angeles Country Club.
The 2020 graduate of Boston College was one of four golfers to advance through the final qualifying round held on Monday, June 5 at the Canoe Brook C.C. in Summit, N.J. Â Cavaliere was 6-under par for the 36 holes of competition in the qualifier, carding a 67 (-4) on Canoe Brook's north course and a 69 (-2) on the south course.
Cavaliere closed the first round of Monday's qualifier strong, posting six birdies and two pars on the back nine on the north course. Â His hot play continued, carding four straight birdies - and five in his first six holes - into the second round. Â
A field of 67 players - featuring amateurs and professionals - competed for the four coveted spots in the U.S. Open at Canoe Brook. Â Cavaliere advanced to the final qualifying round by virtue of finishing in the top six of the local qualifying round at White Beeches Golf & Country Club on May 15 in Haworth, N.J. In total, 878 golfers took to 12 courses around the world competed for 64 spots in the 123rd U.S. Open, including in locations in England, Canada, and Japan.
Cavaliere is no stranger to USGA championship play, having qualified for the last three - and four total - U.S. Amateur Championships.
