Liu Advances to Thursday's Round of 32 at U.S. Women's Amateur

Grad student wins her opening round match, 3-and-1; tees off at 8:10 a.m. ET on Thursday
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Bibllani Liu advanced to Thursday's quarterfinal round of match play at the 121st U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, held at the Westchester C.C. in Rye, N.Y.
Liu defeated Grace Summerhays, 3-and-1, on Wednesday afternoon. The grad student went 2-up after a par on the 13th hole, and halved the holes on 14-15-16, before winning the 17th hole to clinch the match. She will take on Yu-Chiang Hou tomorrow morning, teeing off at 8:10 a.m.
She advanced to the match play bracket after finishing a tie for 40th place after the opening rounds of stroke play on Aug. 2-3. Liu was 3-over par over the two rounds of play, carding an opening round 74 on Monday, followed by a 1-over 73 during Tuesday's 18 holes of competition. Liu carded 27 pars and three birdies through the opening two rounds.
The U.S. Women's Amateur Championship is being contested on the West Course at Westchester C.C. It opened in 1922 and was designed by Walter Travis. The par 72 track has a slope rating of 152 and the course is rated at 78.6.
