Swim Season Wraps Up at ACC Championship

Junior Sam Roche sets trio of individual school records plus three more in relays.
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Boston College men's swimming and diving team competed at the ACC Championship inside the Greensboro Aquatics Center over the last week. Junior Sam Roche highlighted the Eagles' showing with three individual school records.
Roche matched his own record in the 50 back with a time of 21.78. He reached the finals in the 100 back and registered a record-breaking time of 47.31 in the prelims to earn him a NCAA B Cut. He bested his time in the finals with a 47.15 and finished 22nd. In the 400 free relay, Roche swam to a school record 43.94 in the lead position.
BC set program records in the 200 free, 400 free and 400 free medley relays. Roche, senior Zander Santana, sophomore Matt Szekely and freshman Ryan Mathis posted a time of 1:20.30 in the 200 free, shaving a half second off the previous record set in 2016. Roche, Szekely, Santana and senior Peter Shepanzyk teamed up for a 3:13.71 in the 400 medley. In the 400 free relay, Roche, Santana, Szekely and freshman Charlie Clark finished in 2:57.79.
Sophomore Zachary Szmania registered school-record times of 15:31.41 in the 1650 free and 9:20.20 in the 1000 free; beating each of his own previous BC records.
Louisville claimed the team championship with a overall score of 1,181.
