BC's GSR ranks tied for 10th in all sports among all Football Bowl Subdivision Schools
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College once again ranks top-10 in the nation in overall Graduation Success Rate (GSR) in all sports among FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) schools. The NCAA released the most recent GSR information on Thursday.
Â
BC boasted an overall GSR of 95 for the class of student-athletes that entered the university in 2014, which was tied for 10th nationally. Boston College's GSR ranked fourth in the ACC behind only Duke (99), Notre Dame (97) and Wake Forest (96) in the conference.
Â
Since the GSR's inception, Boston College has earned a mark of 94 or better in all 16 GSR reports, which date back to the class of student-athletes that entered in 1998.
Â
In the latest GSR rate release, 12 BC teams scored a perfect 100 GSR: men's golf, men's skiing, men's tennis, women's basketball, women's cross country/track & field, women's fencing, women's golf, women's lacrosse, women's skiing, women's swimming & diving, women's tennis, and women's volleyball.
Â
22 of Boston College's 24 athletic programs scored a GSR of 92 or better and every single program scored higher than the national GSR of 81.
Â
BC football ranked fourth in the ACC with an 92 GSR, two points higher than last year and 11 points above the Division I average (81). Men's basketball registered a GSR of 88, which was four points higher than the NCAA average, while women's basketball's perfect GSR was eight points higher than the national mark (92).
The GSR was developed by the NCAA as part of its academic reform initiatives, which were to more accurately assess the academic success of student-athletes. Institutions are held accountable for transfer students – unlike the federal graduation rate – as well as midyear enrollees. The GSR is calculated both overall for a university, as well as for each sport sponsored by a school.
Â
More information about the GSR is available at NCAA.org.
