Six programs - including the Eagles' football squad - earn NCAA Public Recognition Awards
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Six Boston College athletic teams were recognized Wednesday with the NCAA APR (Academic Progress Rate) Public Recognition Award. Each year, the awards are bestowed upon teams finishing in the top 10 percent of their respective sport based on the most recent multi-year APR.
Â
BC's six teams honored ranked tied for fourth-most among Atlantic Coast Conference schools. BC's football, men's cross country, women's lacrosse, women's skiing, women's swimming & diving, and women's tennis teams were recognized for the 2018-19 academic year.Â
Football is one of only 13 schools at the FBS level to earn a Public Recognition Award and one of five to earn an award for the last three years, joining Clemson, Northwestern, Navy, and Air Force. Boston College has ranked among the national leaders of FBS schools honored with the APR Recognition Award every year it has been presented.
BC's women's lacrosse extended its streak of garnering an NCAA Public Recognition Award to 10 straight years. Each of BC's teams that were honored by the NCAA have done so in consecutive years: men's cross country (5), women's skiing (4), women's tennis (4), women's swimming & diving (2).
"Congratulations to the programs earning Public Recognition Awards for their commitment to academic success," NCAA President Mark Emmert said. "The number of perfect scores this year is an indication that schools and student-athletes are setting high bars for achievement, and we are proud that they are continuing to succeed academically as well as athletically."
