The 2019 slate features nine chances to catch the Eagles at home
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The 2019 Boston College volleyball schedule has been released by head coach Jason Kennedy and features nine chances to catch the Eagles at home in Power Gym this upcoming season.
The Eagles kick off with an exhibition match, hosting Northeastern on Aug. 24 at 7:00 p.m. They then head cross-country, participating in the Oregon Classic over the Aug. 30-31 weekend, taking on Oregon State, UC Irvine and Oregon in the stretch.
Returning east, they're set for another pair of tournaments on the road: first is the UConn Challenge over Sept. 6-7, where they'll take on Central Connecticut, UConn and Iona before heading south for the FAU Invitational Sept. 13-14. The FAU Invitational features matches with Bethune-Cookman, FAU and Southern Utah.
Back in New England, the Eagles will have a midweek match at Harvard on Sept. 18 before heading to the Rhode Island Challenge, where they will take on Bryant, URI and UAlbany on Sept. 20-21.
"This non-conference schedule will help us immensely in preparing for the ACC," shared Kennedy. "Playing two Pac-12 teams right off the bat will be a good measuring stick for us to gauge what we've accomplished this spring and give our freshman a good opportunity to see some high level competition"
The Atlantic Coast Conference slate begins on the road as the Eagles head to Clemson on Sept. 27 and Georgia Tech on Sept. 29.Â
The first official home match of 2019 is set for Oct. 4, as the Eagles continue conference play hosting Duke. The match with the Blue Devils begins a four-match home stretch, as BC welcomes Wake Forest, Virginia and Pitt within the two-week stretch.
Back on the road, BC will take on Florida State (Oct. 18), Miami (Oct. 20), NC State (Oct. 25) and North Carolina (Oct. 27) before returning to Chestnut Hill. In a busy week at home, the Eagles play host to Louisville (Nov. 1), Notre Dame (Nov. 3), Syracuse (Nov. 6) and Virginia Tech (Nov. 8).Â
The final road swing of the regular season will feature visits to Wake Forest (Nov. 17), Virginia (Nov. 22) and Syracuse (Nov. 24), before the Eagles wrap up at home with another match with NC State (Nov. 30).
"Being on the road for the first five weeks of the season is going to be tough but it will help us get used to an area we struggled in last year," added Kennedy."Â We had a hard time winning on the road so we want to give ourselves plenty of chances to play some good teams prior to starting the conference on the road at Clemson and Georgia Tech." The Eagles saw their most successful season since 2004 in Kennedy's first year at the helm of the program.
