April 25, 2019 | Women's Hockey
A quartet of seniors will lead the Eagles next season.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Seniors Lindsay Agnew and Erin Connolly will captain the 2019-20 Boston College women's hockey team, while classmates Molly Barrow and Delaney Belinskas will be the team's alternate captains, as announced Thursday by head coach Katie Crowley.
All four players will be first-time captains.
"We're very excited about these four players who have been chosen by their peers as leaders for the upcoming 2019-20 season," said Crowley. "All four of these student-athletes are very well respected in our locker room, around campus and on the ice. We're excited to see each of them carry on the tradition of Boston College hockey and to see them lead our program over the next year."
Agnew – who transferred to the Heights this past fall after two years at Minnesota – made an immediate impact in her first season as an Eagle, as she set career highs in points (26), goals (15), and assists (11). She also potted the first game-winning goals and short-handed goals of her career, going on to record three and four, respectively. Agnew, who was a key penalty-killer for the Eagles this year, led all of Hockey East with her four short-handed goals, a number that also ranked tied for second in the nation. The Oakville, Ontario native's 156 shots on goal ranked third on the team, and she fired at least one shot on goal in all 39 of BC's contests in the 2018-19 season. The team went 18-2-1 when Agnew registered at least one point and 12-1-1 when she scored a goal.
Connolly is coming off a junior season in which she tied a career-high in points, scoring eight goals and assisting on six others for 14 points. She primarily centered the third line this past year, winning 51.9 percent of her face-offs. Connolly sparked BC's comeback 5-4 overtime win over UConn in the Hockey East Tournament quarterfinals, scoring with one second remaining in the second period and then potting an unassisted tally early in the third period. Connolly, who has skated in 114 games for BC, was named the Beanpot Most Valuable Player as a freshman.
This past season, Barrow earned her first career start, win and shutout in a game at Holy Cross on Nov. 24. The Belmont, Mass. native made 16 saves in the 5-0 conference victory, becoming the third goaltender in the program's modern history to earn a shutout in their first career start. Barrow's impact is felt strongly off the ice, as she is a two-time member of the Hockey East All-Academic Team and ACC Honor Roll.
Belinskas enters her senior season having suited up for all 116 games BC has played over the last three years. The Port Orange, Fla. native has recorded 67 points on 29 goals and 38 assists in those contests. Belinskas came in clutch in the second half of this season for BC, scoring three game-winning goals and assisting on another while finishing the year with five game-winning points. She had a career-long goal streak of four games while also trying her career-high point streak at six games. The Eagles went 13-1-1 when Belinskas had at least one point and were 8-0-0 when she scored a goal.
