It marks the second time Jarmond has received the honor
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – William V. Campbell Director of Athletics Martin Jarmond has been named to the Sports Business Journal's Forty Under 40 Class of 2019. SBJ announces the annual list of 40 executives who are recognized for excellence and innovation in their careers, all before the age of 40.Â
Â
It marks the second time Jarmond has received the honor as he was named to the SBJ Forty Under 40 Class of 2017 during his time as Deputy Athletics Director at Ohio State.
Â
All 40 executives will be featured in the March 25 issue of Sports Business Journal. They also will be honored at our annual Forty Under 40 gala, April 4, at the Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, Calif. That event comes at the conclusion of the annual CAA World Congress of Sports, April 3-4.
Â
Jarmond's leadership has helped change the climate and culture in and around Boston College Athletics as his positive energy and passion has helped drive the Eagles' momentum on and off the field.
Â
Between the lines, Boston College enjoyed a successful first year under Jarmond's leadership that included the football team winning five of its last six regular season games en route to a berth in the Pinstripe Bowl, the sailing team winning three different national championships in the fall, men's basketball earning a bid to the postseason for the first time since 2011 in the NIT and both the men's and women's hockey programs capturing Hockey East Conference championships. In addition, the women's lacrosse team won the ACC regular season championship and reached the national championship game for the second consecutive season.
Â
Jarmond orchestrated the first strategic plan in Boston College athletics history, a comprehensive, five-year set of goals and aspirations that seeks to advance the program by fostering student-athlete formation, strengthening competitive excellence, increasing external engagement, and enhancing facilities.
Â
The strategic plan will be supported by a $150 million capital campaign—also the first in program history and the largest athletics campaign of any ACC institution—called Greater Heights: The Campaign for Boston College Athletics.
Student-athlete welfare is one of Jarmond's priorities as Director of Athletics, and he has developed the first student-athlete fueling station at Boston College, allowing student-athletes 24-7 access to the station. He has also established a program for first generation student-athletes, those who are the first to attend college in their families, allowing them further support to thrive and start a foundation for life after college.
Â
Off the field, Jarmond spearheaded a program to bring beer and wine sales to Alumni Stadium and Conte Forum. Fan engagement has been vital to Jarmond and he initiated the first fan council at Boston College in the fall, focusing on the atmosphere and experience at football games. With the overwhelming success from the fall fan council, BC began a winter fan council for games and events at Conte Forum and Kelley Rink.
Â
Before arriving at The Heights as the youngest athletic director of any Power Five institution, Jarmond served as the deputy director of athletics at Ohio State, arriving in Columbus in 2009 as an associate athletics director for development. Jarmond was a member of the NCAA's inaugural College Football Playoff National Championship Advisory Group and the Rose Bowl Advisory Committee.
Â
A native of Fayetteville, N.C, Jarmond graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where he was a two-time captain of the basketball team, earned All-CAA Academic honors, and helped the Seahawks gain their first NCAA Tournament appearance. He earned both an MBA and a master's in sports administration from Ohio University.
