HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – BC began the match with a 4-0 lead, jumping to a 10-4 advantage at the Georgia Tech timeout. BC went 7-6 over the next 13 points to keep the Yellow Jackets at arm's length, leading 17-10 at the second GT timeout. Out of the break the Eagles went 4-1 to lead 21-11 until Georgia Tech had a late 7-2 surge, closing the gap to 23-18 and forcing a BC regroup. Boston College won the final points out of the timeout, winning the first set 25-18.
Set 2 – The Eagles battled 17 tie points and seven lead changes in the second set en route to a 25-22 win. Hitting an impressive .410 through the frame, BC committed just four errors on 39 attempts. The teams went point-for-point in the entire first half of the frame, with Georgia Tech leading 15-14 at the media timeout. The Yellow Jackets went 4-3, driving BC to use a timeout as the Eagles were trailing by two, 19-17. BC went 5-2 to regain the lead, 22-21, then hit a late rush to finish the set 3-1 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Set 3 – Georgia Tech stole its only win of the match in set three, edging the Eagles 25-20 in another back-and-forth frame. Much like the second set, the Eagles and Yellow Jackets traded points through 11 ties with BC leading 15-13 at the Tech timeout. Georgia Tech rebounded with a 5-1 run, leading 18-17, before BC went 3-1 to lead 20-19. Tech came out swinging, scoring six unanswered points to win the set. 25-20.
Set 4 – The final frame was all BC, holding the Yellow Jackets to their lowest hitting percentage of the night (.114). Tech initially led the set, holding a 12-8 advantage, until Boston College went on a tear with nine unanswered points to lead 17-12. The Yellow Jackets finally halted the run, but were overpowered by the Eagles' offense. Freshman Jewel Strawberry came up big, putting away three kills during a 6-3 BC run that gave the Eagles a 23-15 advantage. Georgia Tech hit a late surge, scoring three-straight to trail 23-18, but a Tech service error and an Eagles' ace gave BC the 25-18 set win and the match victory.
Sophomore Ally Mullen
"It feels great to know that all the hard work we've put in this last week of practice has been paying off and we're just ready to keep competing. Defensively, people were making great digs and we had speed once we got the digs up."
