Spring sports are fully underway and the weekend was a great one for the Eagles.
Despite having to switch venues, and again being unable to open their new home turf at the Brighton Athletic Fields, the softball team made the most of temporary digs at Martone-Mejail Field in North Andover, where they swept their three-game set against Virginia over the weekend.
Â
Jess Dreswick set the tone, firing the first perfect game of her career in game one of a Friday doubleheader, helping the Eagles to their first ACC win of the season, an 8-0 victory, in the process.
Â
The senior ace struck out seven and needed just 57 pitchers in her five spotless innings, then after the team claimed victory in the second game on Friday (10-6), she toed the rubber again on Saturday and allowed only three hits over seven innings to record a 3-0 shutout.
Â
Freshman C.C. Cook went 7-for-7 in the series with three triples, three walks, six runs, two RBIs and a stolen base, earning her in the process ACC Player of the Week honors.
Â
With the sweep the Eagles (12-15), who head to Syracuse for three this weekend, improved to 3-3 in the ACC.

Baseball did get the opportunity to hit the Brighton Athletic Fields last weekend for its first full series of games, welcoming Virginia Tech to the mint facilities.
Â
A four-run seventh inning on Friday pushed them over the top in the opener, 7-4, behind a 2-for-4, four-RBI effort from right fielder Jack Cunningham.
Â
In the first game of a Saturday doubleheader, the Eagles allowed the Hokies to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the ninth before sophomore Dante Baldelli belted his first career home run for Boston College, a walk-off grand slam.
Â
"His development has been awesome, it's fun to watch," said head coach Mike Gambino. "As great as he's been playing, I think he's just getting going."
Â
Junior Dan Metzdorf struck out a career-high 13 batters, and allowed only two hits over eight innings, in the 6-2 victory, earning him ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week honors.
Â
The Eagles (9-13, 4-5 ACC), who dropped the finale of the series, 5-2 and then dropped a mid-week game to UConn, 4-0, will head to Clemson for three this weekend.

Adding to the enjoyment of last weekend was the No. 2 ranked lacrosse team, which took down fifth-ranked North Carolina, 17-11, in a highly anticipated clash of ACC powerhouses at the 2018 Red Bandana Game.
Â
Sam Apuzzo scored four goals and added five assists to the cause, and Kaileen Hart, Emma Schurr and Taylor Walker all notched hat tricks.
Â
It was the first time Boston College (12-0, 3-0 ACC) had defeated the Tar Heels since 2015.
Â
"It was a really awesome team win," said head coach Acaica Walker. "From the defense all the way up top to the offense. It was such a fun game to coach."
Â
The Eagles ran their program-best winning streak to 12 to start the season, and their unblemished record stands as the best in the country.
Â
"It was a great weekend all around," said baseball coach Mike Gambino. "Jess Dreswick throws a perfect game which unbelievable and to have lacrosse continue to do what they do and win ball games and beat Carolina at home. It was a fun weekend around The Heights."
Â
The lacrosse team will face off with 10th-ranked Virginia in Charlottesville on Saturday.

Â
On Saturday morning the Eagles won all events versus St. Joe's, and grabbed wins in the third varsity eight and varsity four versus Temple in the afternoon.
Â
