Conklin Earns Singles Victory on Day 1 of Tiger Fall Classic
November 10, 2018 | Women's Tennis
BATON ROUGE, La. – Four members of the Boston College women's tennis team competed Friday on Day 1 of the Tiger Fall Classic, hosted by LSU.
Marion Conklin earned the Eagles' lone singles victory, defeating Southern Methodist's Katherine Jakeway 6-3, 7-6(4). The rookie was down 1-4 in the second set tiebreaker but came back to win six straight points.
"Marion earned BC player of the day. She and Natasha Irani played a great doubles match against LSU but came up a bit short 4-6. However, the duo showed great energy, solid communication and heart as the fought for every point. That carried right into Conklin's singles play. She was focused from the start and won a majority of the sudden death points in the first set, bolstering her confidence," said associate head coach John Sherwood. "This is the best I've seen her play, I'm very proud of her."
Yufei Long played a tight match against Central Florida's Rebeka Stolmar but fell 7-5, 7-5. Dasha Possokhova and Irani both faced players from UCF on Friday and dropped their matches.
In doubles competition against LSU, Long and Possokhova dropped a 6-2 decision to the team of Bridges and Corley, while Irani and Conklin battled hard against Johnson and Vasilyuk in a 6-4 defeat.
Day 2 of the Tiger Fall Classic begins at 10 a.m. (ET) on Saturday as the Eagles face LSU in singles matches and compete in doubles against Northwestern, UCF, and SMU.
