Eagles Set Seven Program Records at Terrier Invitational
November 19, 2018 | Swimming
The swim and dive team set seven new program-bests and two pool records with 50 Top-10 performances
BOSTON, Mass. – The Boston College swim and dive team had a standout weekend over the three-day Terrier Invitational meet, hosted by Boston University. The Eagles marked seven new school records and two Boston University pool records while 50 individual performances made it to the Top-10 All-Time list. The men's team won it all, earning 1116.5 total points while the women's team took it to the very last event, falling just short in the 400-yard freestyle relay to put them in second place with 801.5 total points on the weekend. Despite falling just short in placement, the 3:26.24 time by Ashleigh Scott, Maura Grimes, Haley Dolan and Ali Kea was good for a program best.
"At the beginning of the year, one of our many team goals was to win the Terrier Invitational," shared head coach Mike Stephens. "While at the time it was a stretch goal of ours, the entire team rallied behind that mission and put in the work needed to get there. I am very proud of the group effort this past weekend. It was incredibly encouraging for the men to win it all and for the women to take it down to the very last relay in record-breaking fashion. We look forward to getting back to work for the second half of the season".
On top of the overall win for the men's team, senior Taylor Cortens earned himself a new program record with a first-place, 1:58.15 finish in the 200-yard breaststroke event. Additionally, Robert McCrory won first place in the 3-meter dive with a score of 270.40.
For the women, four relay events and two individual events found new all-time records.
In addition to the 400-yard freestyle relay record, Victoria Lin, Haley Dolan, Ashleigh Scott and Ali Kea started the meet off strong, recording the new program-best 200-yard freestyle relay time of 1:33.55. Maura Grimes, Taylor Covington, Victoria Lin and Ali Kea's 3:44.78 in the 400-yard medley relay marked another top spot in the record book while their 1:41.66 is now program-best for the 200-yard medley relay.
Maura Grimes also recorded individual records with a 55.57 100-yard backstroke split and a 1:59.77 time in the 200-yard backstroke. Ellie Uhl and Gabriella Taghian placed third and seventh, respectively, in the women's 3-meter dive.Â
Two Boston University pool records were also taken by Eagles – Charles Kleinsmith's 100-yard breaststroke (54.72) and the women's 200-yard medley relay by Maura Grimes, Taylor Covington, Victoria Lin and Ali Kea (1:41.66).
