Eagles Set New Records at ACC/B1G Challenge

All six representatives recorded new personal-best times at Purdue
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Boston College swim and dive program had six representatives compete during the inaugural ACC/B1G Challenge meet over this weekend. Hosted by Purdue, the Big Ten Conference bested both the men's and women's teams from the Atlantic Coast. The men were topped by just five points – 179-174 – while the women fell 251-102.Â

The six members of the Eagles squad were Victoria Lin, Taylor Covington, Ali Kea, Taylor Cortens, Charles Kleinsmith and Colin O'Leary. Each participant earned personal-best times in their perspective races.

Taylor Covington set a new Boston College record in the women's 100-yard breaststoke, coming in at a time of 1:03.32. The previous record was a time of 1:04.67, set by Melissa Merwin on February 20, 2015. Covington's record time earned eighth place in the event.

Covington and Victoria Lin were part of the seventh-place women's 200-yard medley relay, joining Emma Muzzy and Haibing Wang for a final time of 1:41.60.

Colin O'Leary and Charles Kleinsmith joined conference-mates Christopher Thames and Miles Williams for an eighth-place finish in the men's 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:30.14.

Taylor Cortens and Colin O'Leary were a part of the seventh-place 800-yard freestyle relay team, joining Christopher Thames and Zach Fong for a final time of 6:47.41.

The Eagles return to Boston to participate in the annual Terrier Invitation, hosted by Commonwealth Avenue rival Boston University.Â
