Irani and Long Pick Up Singles Victories Over LSU
November 10, 2018 | Women's Tennis
BATON ROUGE, La. – Natasha Irani and Yufei Long each collected singles victories on Saturday during Day 2 action at the Tiger Fall Classic at LSU. Irani earned a straight set victory over LSU's Taylor Bridges 7-6(1), 6-3, while Long needed three sets to defeat Anna Loughlan of the Tigers 6-1, 2-6, 6-2.
Â
"Natasha won this match through determination" said associate head coach John Sherwood. "Coming from behind in the first set to win the tiebreaker really set the stage for Natasha's success in the second set."
Â
"Yufei also had a hard battle today to overcome LSU's Anna Loughlan. Yufei started strong and aggressive the first set controlling point progression, but the second flipped with Loughlan being the effective aggressor," added Sherwood. "In the third set, Long found her second wind and once again dominated play."
Â
Dasha Possokhova evened her singles match at one set apiece with Kennan Johnson but fell in the third for a 0-6, 6-2, 6-0 final score. Marion Conklin couldn't match her Friday performance as she fell to the Tigers' Luba Vasilyk 6-4, 6-3.
Â
The Eagles dropped their doubles matches against teams from Northwestern and Central Florida with tandems of Long/Irani and Possokhova/Conklin.
Â
The third and final day of competition at LSU begins at 10 a.m. (ET) on Sunday.
