Stephens adds Eight New Members

Boston College welcomes the incoming class of 2021 to the men's swimming and diving team for the 2017-18 season. Boston College swimming introduces eight new members to the Heights: Peter Bankes from Boxford, Mass.; Kevin Chandra from Tarzana, Calif.; Colin O'Leary from Barrington, IL; Zander Santana from San Diego, Calif.; Ted Schlehr from Cincinnati, OH; Matt Shelton from Suwanee, GA; Peter Shepanzyk from Berkeley Heights, New Jersey and William Suchy from Wilton, Conn.
Interim Head Coach Michael Stephens is eager for these new Eagles to join the team: "We are excited to welcome our incoming freshman class to the Heights this fall. The talent and work ethic among this group of athletes is special - we are confident that they will quickly make a positive impact on our program."
Peter Bankes – Masconomet Regional High School – Boxford, MA
Cape Ann League Swimmer of the Year in 2017…high School team Captain for the 2016-17 season…Awarded Team MVP for 2016-17 season…holds four records in the 100 backstroke, 200 individual medley, 200 medley relay, and 400 freestyle relay…scholar Athlete Award for Academic Varsity Athletic Achievement three years in a row (2015-17).
Kevin Chandra – Notre Dame High School – Tarzana, CA
Named Team MVP as a freshman, junior and senior…Mission League All-Academic Team 2014-2017…Varsity Team Captain 2016-17…holds school record in the 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley…part of the 200 freestyle, 200 medley, and 400 freestyle relays that broke school records…earned Maxima Cum Laude for maintaining over a 4.0 GPA throughout all eight semesters of high school.
Colin O'Leary – Barrington High School – Barrington, IL
Lettered all four years…team Captain in 2015 and 2017…Mid-Suburban League Swimmer of the Year in 2015…Four-time IHSA State Finalist in 100 backstroke and butterfly…holds school team records in the 200 medley relay, 100 backstroke, and 100 butterfly…also played water polo and received All-Sectional Honorable Mention in 2016...led the water polo team to the Conference and Sectional Championship in 2015 & 2017.
Zander Santana – University City High School – San Diego, CA
Lettered all four years…All-American in 2016 and 2017…team Captain in 2017…holds University City records in the 200 medley, 200 freestyle, and 400 freestyle relays…All-Academic Team 2014-15…CIF Champion in the 500 freestyle…placed third in the 500 freestyle at CIF State Championships in 2016-17…All-CIF Academic Team.
Ted Schlehr – Kings High School – Cincinnati, OH
Lettered all four years…Team Captain in 2017…Team MVP 2016 and 2017…holds school team records in the 50, 100, and 200 breaststroke…five-time National Qualifier…captain of Club Team, Countryside Torpedoes, in 2017…All-ECC Academic Achiever…played varsity golf in freshman and sophomore year.
Matt Shelton – North Gwinnett High School – Suwanee, GA
Varsity Team Captain in 2017…lettered all four years….All-County Team for four years in a row…first Team All-State…member of the Gwinnett County Super Six Team in 2017…holds two school records in the 200 and 400 freestyle relay, second in the state for both…placed seventh in the 400 freestyle relay at Junior Nationals in 2016…member of the National Honor Society.
Peter Shepanzyk – Delbarton School – Berkeley Heights, NJ
Lettered all four years…team Captain in 2017…top breaststroker for four years…Team MVP in 2017…awarded Scholastic All-American in 2017…County Championship 2017…NJISAA Champion in 2016, 2017…First Team All-State 2016 and 2017…has been swimming for the Berkeley Aquatics Club since he was four years old…Highest Honors Student and on Headmaster's List.
William Suchy – Wilton High School – Wilton, CT
Top freestyle, butterfly, IM and backstroke swimmer….team Captain in 2017…All-State 2015 and 2016…All-FCIAC Second Team 2014-17…All-FCIAC First Team in 2017…team MVP in 2016…YMCA Short/Long Course National Qualifier 2015-17…Connecticut Residence Record Holder…YMCA National Champion…older sister, Chrissy, also swam at Boston College….member of the National Honor Society.
