Pair honored for performances last week
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Senior Lexi Borr (women's tennis) and sophomore Gian Martellini (baseball) have been named Eagles of the Week for their performances last week.
Borr was named ACC Player of the Week on Tuesday after leading Boston College to a 2-0 week. She went 4-0 in a pair of Eagle wins against Boston University and Syracuse. Borr posted a comeback victory in second singles against No. 107 Gabriela Knutson of Syracuse, 5-7, 7-6, 6-4. Borr also defeated BU's Barbara Rodriguez 6-1, 6-1 in second singles. She and senior Emily Safron also won both their doubles matches last week.
Martellini led the Eagles with a .500 batting average and tied for the team lead with six hits, three runs and five RBIs in the 19 Ways Invitational hosted by Oklahoma. In the Eagles' 10-3 victory against Villanova, he tallied a career-high four RBIs, going 3-for-4 with a run, walk and his third double of the season. His three-run double against the Wildcats was the eventual game winner, as the Eagles trailed, 3-1, at that point in the game.
Women's tennis (6-4, 1-1 ACC) is at Notre Dame on Friday before hosting North Carolina on Sunday. Baseball (2-4) will play five games at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla., from Friday to Tuesday.
