Eagles take weekly honors after standout efforts last week
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College freshman guard Sydney Lowery (women's basketball) and sophomore forward Julius Mattila (men's hockey) have been named Nissan Eagles of the Week following their performances last week.
Â
Lowery averaged 16.5 points per game, 4.0 rebounds per game and went 7-for-7 from the free-throw line as the Eagles posted a 1-1 week. On Wednesday against Houston, the freshman from Shelton, Connecticut, scored 15 points and added six rebound while playing 38 minutes in the Eagles' 79-74 win at Conte Forum. On Sunday in a 61-57 loss at Boston University, Lowery posted a team-high 18 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the floor while adding two steals.
Â
In BC's only game last week, Mattila posted a career-best four points and was a plus-4 in men's hockey's 4-4 tie with Harvard that pushed the 15th-ranked Eagles' undefeated streak to eight games. The Tampere, Finland, product scored two goals and added two assists, factoring in all four of BC's goals. His first goal of the night pulled BC even at 2-2 midway through the second period, before his second goal with just over five minutes remaining gave the Eagles a temporary lead before Harvard equalized with under three to play.
Â
Women's basketball (3-3) returns to the court on Wednesday, Nov. 29, when the Eagles travel to face Columbia at 11 a.m. Men's hockey (8-5-2) hits the ice next on Friday, Dec. 1, when the team hosts Boston University at 7 p.m. in the first of the teams' home-and-home weekend series.
