Alumni, parents and friends who have given to BC Athletics were recognized
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College Athletics Department celebrated Donor Impact Week last week, which was an opportunity to recognize the alumni, parents and friends who have given to the Eagles in support of student-athletes. During the 2017 fiscal year, contributors empowered Boston College to hit a record-breaking $27 million for athletics.
Â
The six-day initiative included over 1,000 face-to-face interactions for student-athletes, coaches and staff to thank donors over the course of three Donor Appreciation events. All 7,655 donors were sent exclusive electronic messaging, including personalized emails from student-athletes, alumni and staff. The Flynn Fund debuted its series of "Game Changer" videos on social media and its Donor Impact webpage.
Â
Events for Donor Impact Week included tours of the renovated men's and women's hockey locker rooms and tickets to the men's hockey game against Connecticut and men's basketball home opener against Maine. Donors were also selected as prize winners, receiving gear packages and in-game experiences ranging from operating the tee shirt gun to unveiling the American flag during the National Anthem with the Wounded Warriors at the football game.
Â
The week culminated with the Donor Appreciation Football Game on Nov. 11 when the Eagles hosted No. 23 NC State. Current student-athletes welcomed fans and handed out mini Flynn Fund footballs in the tailgating parking lots on Saturday. Pregame access to the Alumni Stadium sidelines was awarded to the first 110 donors who participated in the 110% campaign. Currently, over 800 donors have given over 110 percent in the 2018 fiscal year.
Â
Throughout the game, special groups such as new donors, milestone donors and former student-athletes were recognized on field and with video messages. Â
Â
The Flynn Fund welcomed over 1,400 new donors in 2017. Over 1,220 former Eagle athletes paid it forward. All donors made gifts to support scholarships, operations and facilities including six major facility projects in 2017, which included the Athletics Field House, Connell Recreation Center, Brighton Baseball and Softball Fields, and the renovations to the hockey locker rooms.
Â
"We appreciate our donors 365 days a year. This week was an opportunity to highlight our gratitude and the impact alumni, parents and friends have on our student-athletes," said senior associate athletics director Steve Novak. "Private support is critical to our success and growth. We hope that more and more Eagles join them in the future to have an even greater impact in the years to come."
