November 10, 2017 | Boston College Athletics, Devlin Student-Athlete Formation & Succe
The program is the first of its kind at Boston College
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College Athletics Department launched a new initiative in the fall of 2017, the Eagles Leadership Institute. The multi-leveled, foundation-building institute requires a year-long commitment, with the opportunity to graduate to the next level the following year. It is the first of its kind at BC and gives student-athletes a leadership-building opportunity.
Â
The Institute's mission is to provide holistic and inclusive leadership programming to support student-athletes in their personal growth as leaders and positive change makers on their teams and in the world beyond. Participants are a select group of student-athlete leaders who have demonstrated potential, desire and characteristics to be impactful members of their team and the greater community.Â
Â
Two levels were established in the 2017-18 inaugural year: Rising Eagles (26 sophomores) and Veteran Eagles (46 juniors and seniors). The 2018-19 year will see the addition of the Golden Eagle level, which will consist of seniors and fifth-year students.
Â
Each level will cover different themes. The Rising Eagles program will include self-awareness, self-leadership and followership, exploration of different leadership models and theories and effective leadership styles. The Veteran Eagles program will include personal leadership style, communication and conflict management, team dynamics and culture and building a leadership network of support.
