Basketball travels to North Carolina, men's hockey heads outdoors and women's hockey future star shines around the world
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Men's Basketball: Following the New Year's Day win over Syracuse, the Eagles traveled Wake Forest on Tues. Jan. 3. Going into the second half with a two-point lead, Boston College could not withstand the strong push from the Demon Deacons and fell 79-66.
After the loss in Winston-Salem, the Eagles continued their North Carolina road trip as they made their way to Durham to battle Duke. In a high scoring affair, Boston College came out of the half down 19 points but rallied to make the game a two possession game. However, the Blue Devils withstood the Eagles' surge and took the win 93-82.
Men's Ice Hockey: Despite the weather postponing the game until Sunday, Jan. 8, Boston College once again took center stage at historic Fenway Park to take on the Providence Friars as part of Frozen Fenway.
Tied 1-1 late in the third period, freshman David Cotton scored on the power play to give the Eagles the lead with three minutes to play. After the Friars pulled their goalie, senior forward Austin Cangelosi sealed the victory, putting away the empty net goal.
Women's Ice Hockey:
Future Eagle Cayla Barnes, who'll join the women's hockey team in the fall, is currently in the Czech Republic and serving as the captain of the U.S. Under-18 National Team at the 2017 U18 World Championships which began on Saturday.
The reigning USA Today high school player of the year, Barnes has already won a pair of gold medals at the 2015 and 2016 U18 Worlds, and also made her debut with the full national team in December at just age 17. The IIHF profiled one of the brightest young women's hockey players in the world.
