Basketball to retire jerseys, men's hockey renews rivalry, football announces new games and soccer players selected in drafts.
Men's Basketball: Boston College Athletics announced that on Feb. 25, former Eagles Dana Barros and John Bagley will have their jerseys hung from the rafters of Conte Forum during a special halftime ceremony.
Barros, a guard from 1985-89, was the first player to score 2,000 career points and still ranks third on the program's all-time scoring list with 2,342 points.
As for Bagley, a guard from 1979-82, he was the first Eagle to earn Big East Player of the Year honors in 1981 as a junior. That season, Bagley averaged 20.7 points per game and finished 14th on the career scoring list with 1,629 points.
Football: Finishing the year as the new single-season sack record holder, junior defensive end Harold Landry had the option to move on to the NFL. Instead, he chose to return to The Heights for his senior season.
Landry, facing an important decision, felt that returning would be his best option for him after speaking with coaches, friends and family.
In other football news, Boston College announced the addition of a home-and-home series with Big 12 opponent Kansas, set to take place in 2019 and 2020.
Additionally, the Eagles will return to Fenway Park, this time to face Connecticut, on Saturday, Nov. 18, as part of the Football at Fenway festivities.
Men's Hockey: In a home-and-home series on Friday, Jan. 13 and Monday, Jan. 16, the men's hockey team continued their long-time rivalry with Boston University in the Battle of Comm Ave. Friday's game was the 271st time the Eagles and Terriers met in what is widely considered the best rivalry in college hockey.
The two teams are slated to meet at least one more time this season, with the game taking place at TD Garden in the first round of the 65th Annual Beanpot Tournament on Monday, Feb. 6.
Men's Soccer: Former Boston College midfielder Zeiko Lewis was selected by the New York Red Bulls with the 17th overall pick of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, held Friday, Jan. 13, at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Lewis became the third Eagle to be selected in the first round of the draft.
Women's Soccer: Boston College redshirt senior McKenzie Meehan and senior Hayley Dowd were both drafted in the fourth round of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) on Thursday, Jan. 12. Meehan was selected 34th overall by the Sky Blue Football Club in New Jersey, while Dowd, a Peabody, Mass. native, was drafted by the Boston Breakers with the 38th pick.
