2016 graduate set to compete in 50M freestyle in Omaha on Friday

Dan Kelly '16 shattered Boston College's swimming records during his time in the Flynn Recreation Complex pool, and he's looking to further his swimming legacy on Friday when he races in USA Swimming's Olympic Trials in Omaha.

Kelly, who qualified for 50 meter freestyle with a 23.25, is one of 177 men set to race for a handful of spots on the U.S. Olympic team that will compete in Rio de Janiero in August.

His time is just .14 seconds off the top qualifiers – Tate Jackson, Justin Ress, Kevin Ferguson and John Wagner – who each posted times of 23.09.

Kelly holds numerous Boston College records, including the 50-yard freestyle (19.80), 50-yard butterfly (22.58), 200- and 400-freestyle relay teams.

Kelly's event is set to start at 11 a.m. ET on Friday at Omaha's CenturyLink Center. All events at the Swimming Olympic Trials are being streamed live online by NBC Sports, on NBCOlympics.com and on the NBC Sports Ap. Live results are also available at USA Swimming's website.
