Football among topics in this week's news
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -Â With the spring season wrapping up in the next few weeks, several in-session sports have gotten plenty of attention for their performances of late. Â Additionally, with spring football's conclusion last week, local media has focused on the team's preparation for their season opener, set for September 3 against Georgia Tech in Dublin.Â
FOOTBALL
While fans got their first glimpse of the two new coordinators in the spring game last Saturday, head coach Steve Addazio has loved what he has seen so far from Scot Loeffler and Jim Reid, writes Christopher Frangolini of the Boston Globe. The new coordinators aren't the only ones new to the Eagles for next season, as quarterback Patrick Towles, a graduate student transfer from Kentucky, makes his first trip to life in the northeast. The Globe's Tim Healy had the opportunity to talk about his adjustment. Meanwhile, the Boston Herald's Rich Thompson recently talked about the opportunities for tight end Tommy Sweeney in Addazio's redesigned passing game, which started with his four catch, 57 yard day in the spring game.
BASEBALL
As BC students, faculty, and staff enjoyed the Marathon last Monday run down Commonwealth Ave, one familiar face may have stuck out. Assistant coach Greg Sullivan, running in his first ever marathon in support of Pete Frates, was listed as one of 12 runners to inspire from the 2016 Boston Marathon field. Leading up to the big race, Sullivan discussed his motivation to run as well as who he turned to for advice, including some BC staff members, as he prepared for the 26.2 mile journey. Baseball America also highlighted his story.
MEN'S SOCCER
Former BC soccer player Charlie Davies was recently featured in an ESPN documentary titled, "The Unrelenting Charlie Davis", which explores his journey making a childhood dream a reality, as well overcoming challenges along the way, including the recovery from a serious car accident and his pursuit to become a major league soccer player. In addition to Davies, BC's longtime coach, Ed Kelly was featured in the 16 minute film, which can be watched below.
