Men and Women's hockey programs push for playoff runs
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The women's hockey team hosts Northeastern tomorrow in the NCAA Quarterfinals at Conte Forum while the men's program host the Catamounts of Vermont for the best-of-three Hockey East quarterfinal playoffs starting tonight on the home ice as well. These are just two of the several news stories from around The Heights this week.
WOMEN'S HOCKEY
As the 38-0-0 Eagles prepare for the Huskies of Northeastern tomorrow at 1 p.m., the Boston Globe's Michael Whitmer writes how the Eagles are looking to win just three more games, after winning the Beanpot, the Hockey East regular season title, and the conference tournament title just last weekend. Coach Katie Crowley spoke on WEEI's "College Puckcast" to discuss the team's performance and the mindset heading into the postseason. And as Alex Carpenter looks to repeat as the Patty Kazmaier recipient, awarded to the top hockey player in women's hockey, the senior was featured in a special was published on the Patty Kaz website about building her legacy as an Eagle.Â
MEN'S HOCKEY
While all the attention for men's hockey team is on Vermont this weekend, it was a former Eagle who was making plenty of news in Boston last night. Noah Hanifin, who was drafted as the fifth overall pick in last year's NHL Draft, returned to Beantown for the first time last night to play against the Bruins, the team he grew up rooting for. The Norwood, Mass. native found success in the return, notching two assists, including one that set up the game winner. Prior to the game, he was featured in the News & Observer about playing against his old favorite team. Another former Eagle, Hobey Baker winner Johnny Gaudreau, made the news for the two goals he scored within 10 seconds of each other as his Calgary Flames defeated the Nashville Predators Wednesday night. And in case you missed it, the student newspaper, BC Heights, had a feature on junior Austin Cangelosi and his rise with the Eagles this season.
BASEBALL
While the baseball team (10-2) begins their ACC schedule this weekend at North Carolina State, D1baseball.com has a feature on the Eagles and how their great start has been intriguing.Â
MEN'S SOCCER
Although it's the off season for the men's soccer program, former Eagle Paul Keegan, who graduated from BC in 1996 before going on to have a successful professional career, was featured in an article on how he set the tone for Irishmen playing in Major League Soccer. Â
