CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - As the winter season continues in full swing and the several spring sports prepare for the season openers over the next few weeks, it is only appropropriate that current and former Boston College athletes are in several news stories and features around the country.
Before the Boston College Men's Ice Hockey team play for the Beanpot Championship on Monday night vs. Boston University, Dan Roche of WBZTV in Boston spoke to coach York on what it means to him for recently achieving his 1,000th win milestone. Rich Thompson discusses the latest in the storied history of Commonwealth Ave battle on the ice between BC and BU. And one of the unlikeliest Beanpot participants in the tournament's 64-year history was present on the Eagle's bench in Monday night's game win against Harvard,Â
The Women's Hockey team, who play for a Beanpot Championship of their own next Tuesday against Northeastern, was featured in the Boston Globe following their semi-final round win over Harvard.
Former Eagle standout Johnny Goudreau had quite the weekend in the NHL All Star festivities, registering a goal and two assists. He even had some time to do some writing of his own, explaining how hockey became a part of his life from a very young age, published in The Player's Tribune.
Former Eagles goalie Cory Schneider, who participated in the All-Star festivities as well, had part in some other features of the weekend, including getting to meet some special guests of the NHL as well.Â
And as the Super Bowl arrives on Sunday, Boston College will be represented well with the presence of argulably the NFL's top-defensive player lining up for the Carolina Panthers. There is a story of the special bond that Kuechly formed with fellow Eagle Mark Herzlich back in 2009. Former NFL great Dick Butkus' has also formed a bond with Luke, as both have dominated the linebacker position. And although Kuechly won't be playing in the friendly confines of North Carolina, he still plans on practicing the same pre-game rituals thanks to the help of a local restaurant owner while ESPN has a feature explaining that the spotlight finds Kuechly.Â
