Clifford, Newkirk Named Eagles of the Week

Pair honored for performances last week
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Senior center Dennis Clifford (men's basketball) and freshman forward Makenna Newkirk (women's hockey) have been named Eagles of the Week.
Clifford averaged a double-double in two games against North Carolina and Syracuse last week. He averaged 15.0 points and 10.5 rebounds while shooting .619 (13-for-21) from the field. He also averaged 3.0 assists. Clifford posted his second career double-double against the Tar Heels with 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. He then tallied 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists vs. the Orange.

Newkirk won Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week on Monday after sharing the national lead in scoring with seven points. She had a goal and two assists in the Beanpot final against Northeastern and then recorded two goals and an assists against the Huskies on Friday. Newkirk also had an assist at Vermont.

Men's basketball (7-18, 0-12 ACC) is at Clemson on Wednesday and at Wake Forest on Sunday. Women's hockey (32-0-0, 22-0-0 HEA) wraps up the regular season with a home-and-home against Providence this weekend. The Eagles will host the Friars Friday night.
