Hiatt shares how she turned her parents' sport into her own
Â
Soccer runs through Samantha Hiatt's veins. Synonymous with the DNA passed along by her parents one dominant trait has stood out over the years, her ability to excel on the field.Eric and Emily Hiatt both played soccer at Santa Clara University and but it didn't take long for their daughter to adopt the sport as her own.
"From a young age, soccer was a pretty big part of my life. I tried a couple of other sports but soccer was the one that really stuck with me and I loved it from the beginning so I kept with it," said Hiatt.
The Boston College freshman defender joined her first "real" team around the age six and those beginnings helped further develop her skills on the field.
Hiatt's credentials have complied very quickly in a short amount of time. Especially notable is that she has played for both the U.S. Under-18 and the Under-20 national team. Hiatt knows those accomplishments were no small feat.
"Over the years I just would continue to get better playing for Crossfire [Premier], my club team and then eventually I got noticed at some event and was given an opportunity at a camp. After that point it was just about continuing to get better and performing every camp and hopefully doing well to keep getting invited back."
Boston College's ACC membership was one of the biggest factors in the Seattle native's decision to move east but the combination of academics and athletics made BC home. The future is bright for the younger defender and she plans as exercising her in soccer heritance as long as she can.
"I would like to play as long as I am able. As long as I am able to keep running and kicking, I'll keep trying."
