HOW IT HAPPENED
HIGHLIGHTS:
After the Eagles fell to Delaware in five sets this morning, they were able to get on the board and avoid the sweep at the Holly Young Invitational by beating UNH 3-0 behind a 15 kill effort from Katty Workman and an additional 10 from Sol Calvete. Madisen Lydon was named to the Holly Young Invitational All-Tournament Team following the game.
Delaware Game
Set One:
The first set of the morning featured a back-and-forth battle between Boston College and Delaware with the score tied five times in the set's first 12 points. With the score 16-13 in favor of the Blue Hens, Delaware took four points in a row behind outside hitter Autumn Jenkins, who had three kills in that span. Despite a kill from Michelle Klinikowski to break the Delaware run, the Blue Hens went on a 6-3 run to finish the set. Blue Hens took the first set 25-17.
Set Two:
The Blue Hens jumped out to an early 8-2 lead to start the second frame, but the Eagles worked to cut down Delaware's lead. Katty Workman, Julia Topor, and Sol Calvete combined for three straight kills to bring the score within 9-5. Delaware's Alexa Swann had four kills in a row following a Katie Hillman kill to extend their lead to 14-5. The Eagles would force several Blue Hen errors to get back in the game, but Swann, Jenkins and Julia Anderson guided Delaware to victory in second set, 25-16.
Set Three:
Boston College displayed a dominant effort to get back in the match behind Workman, Topor and Kam McLain, who helped the Eagles out an early lead in the third set. With Boston College leading 16-15, two service errors from Delaware combined with a Mallori Moffat service ace and a Julia Topor kill gave the Eagles a 20-16 lead. The Blue Hens would show an effort to get back in the set, but the Eagles were able to hold off the threat and take the third set, 25-18.
Set Four:
Leading 2-1 in the match, Delaware took a large lead in the fourth set behind two kills from Blue Hen Autumn Jenkins and a blocking error and attack error issued to BC. Their 9-3 lead was quickly erased as McKenna Goss tallied a kill and Julia Topor recorded a service ace as the Eagles were able to bring the score back within two points. With the score tied at 22, Topor and Workman collected kills while Madisen Lydon recorded a service ace to win the set 25-22 and force a fifth and final set.
Set Five:
After forcing a fifth set, the Eagles and Blue Hens exchanged points throughout the first half of the fifth set. Upon switching benches at the halfway mark, Delaware finished on a 7-2 run to take the match by a final score of 3-2.

New Hampshire Game
Set One:
In the first set of the Holly Young Invitational finale against host New Hampshire, BC trailed only once as they overcame their only deficit, down 3-2, to defeat the Wildcats. The Eagles would go on a run of 8-1 after leading 14-12 to jump out ahead of UNH 22-13. Devon Michaelis, Julia Topor, Katty Workman, and Sol Calvete each had kills in that span as the Maroon and Gold took the first set 25-16.
Set Two:
BC took their first lead of the set at the 7-6 mark and exchanged points with New Hampshire for much of the second set. With the Eagles leading by one at 14-13, Topor's kill was followed by a UNH attack error. Workman and Calvete would combine for back-to-back kills and force another attack error to go up 19-14. The Eagles rebounded from an service error with two kills before forcing two attack errors and with BC holding the set point, Workman finished off UNH with one of her 15 kills on the evening to propel Boston College to an early 2-0 lead in the match.
Set Three:
Seeking to sweep New Hampshire, Boston College's Kam McLain tallied two kills in the set's first four points to push out in front early, 4-1. The Wildcats would fight back and even the score at eight but Boston College continued to bring pressure and increased their lead to 16-11, part of an 8-3 run for BC. Sol Calvete rang up three straight kills and the Eagles were able to complete the sweep of New Hampshire, taking the set 25-16.
