May 21, 2015 | Boston College Athletics
Chestnut Hill, Mass.--BC women's track team will be represented by six athletes at the NCAA Division I Eastern Regionals beginning a week from today. The meet will begin on Thursday and will continue through Saturday in Jacksonville, Florida. Qualifiers were required to have one of the fastest 48 times in their event in the NCAA's Eastern Division.
Junior Liv Westphal qualified for two separate events at this years NCAA prelims, both the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters. She will participate in 5,000 meters, the event that she has proven to be her specialty in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Westphal's time of 15:33.33 at the Stanford Invitational was a new outdoor personal record. She enters the meet as third overall qualifier in the 5000 meters.
Junior Laura Hottenrott also qualified for the 5000-meter event with her time at the Stanford Invitational. The Kassel, Germany native posted a time of 16:07.21, a new personal record that shaved over ten seconds off of her previous best in the event. Hottenrott's time places her as the 19th overall qualifier in the event.
Senior Madeleine Davidson and Freshman Isabelle Kennedy round out the Boston College-heavy 5000 meter qualifiers. Davidson's time was a new personal best, 16:12.24, and was set at the Penn Relay Carnival in late April. Kennedy was a recent addition to the Regional Qualifiers, setting a new personal best last week at the ACC Championships with a time of 16:28.58. These four Eagles will toe the starting line on the final day of competition, Saturday, around 8:05 PM.
Senior Katherine O'Keefe qualified for the 1,500-meter event with her impressive performance at the ACC Championships last weekend. The Newton, Mass. local posted a time of 4:22.55 which proved to be a new personal record by nearly seven seconds. O'Keefe will compete in one of the first events of the meet, beginning around 5:30 pm next Thursday.
The Eagles' final competitor is junior Danielle Winslow. Like Westphal, Winslow also qualified in two events, the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 5,000-meters. Winslow will participate in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, the event she qualified for in Tallahassee last weekend. Her time of 10:09.02 sets her as the 16th overall qualifier in the event. She will be the only Eagle competing on Friday, with the race set to start around 8:50 pm.
