Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College women's tennis team will welcome two five-star recruits for the 2012-13 season and earned the 25th spot on the Tennis Recruiting Network's winter rankings presented by Smith Stearns Tennis Academy.
"It is nice to be recognized by The Tennis Recruiting Network for our recruiting class," head coach Nigel Bentley said. "We are very excited about Julia Casslebury and Katya Vasilyev joining next year's team. They are hard workers and will be great student-athletes."
Casselbury, a senior at Lancaster Country Day School who hails from Lititz, Penn., is ranked 55th in the nation and third in the state of Pennsylvania. She is also 16th in the Middle Atlantic region. She is the three-time reigning PIAA Double-A state champion and Lancaster-Lebanon League girls' tennis flight 1 double-A singles champion. She has gone undefeated in her high school career, only falling in one set.
Vasilyev, a Foster City, Calif., native is ranked 56th, ninth in California and 12th in the Southwest. She won the NorCal BG 18-16 Sectional Championship as the second seed after defeating Mary Closs, 7-6 (5), 6-4, in June 2011. She also earned the No. 1 spot in the 16 and 18 age group in Northern California and is an honor roll student at Burlingame.
Virginia earned the No. 1 overall ranking with ACC-foes Georgia Tech and North Carolina taking second and third, respectively. Stanford and Vanderbilt rounded out the top five.
