Head women’s tennis coach Nigel Bentley unveiled the 2011-12 schedule on Friday, which showcases 22 dual matches, including 11 matchups against teams that made the NCAA Tournament last season.
The Eagles open their fall season sending nine players to the Brown Invitational. Last year, the team finished with an overall record of 18-14 at the tournament. Starting October 1, senior Katarina Gajic will compete in the Riviera/ITA All-American, earning BC’s first direct entry in recent years. Nine players will travel to Flushing, N.Y., on October 8 for the USTA Invitational. The Eagles round out the fall season with the ITA Regional Championships (October 21-25) hosted by Yale and the Dartmouth Invitational (November 4-6) in Hanover, N.H.
Boston College opens match play with a home match against Dartmouth on January 21. After non-conference opponents Brown and Massachusetts, the Eagles face ACC-foe Maryland in College Park, Md., on Friday, February 3, a team they defeated last season. They return home to face Virginia that Sunday.
Key matchups included battles at home with conference opponents Clemson (March 23), Georgia Tech (March 25) and Wake Forest (April 7). The Eagles topped the Demon Deacons in 2011. BC will travel to Comm. Ave. – rival Boston University on April 10 and finish the regular season at Chapel Hill to face the defending-conference champion Tar Heels on April 15.
“Our schedule presents matchups with many national contenders,” Bentley said. “We have a lot of pressure to perform well this year, but we feel we have earned the privilege to compete at a high level and we look forward to the challenge.”
