FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Boston College swimming teammates John Maloy, a 2011 BC graduate and James Boretti, a rising junior, wanted to get in just one more swim to conclude their time in the water together. Their meet of choice -- the U.S. Swimming Open Water Championships.
This duo practiced together in the far lanes for the last two seasons and helped make both themselves and their team much better with their efforts. During their time together at BC, they often competed in the same events at meets, including the 1,000-Meter, the 500-Meter and the Individual Medleys. The pair even provided BC with one of the season's most exciting events in 2010, finishing one-two in the Terrier Invite to leave their teammates cheering once again.
In the Open Water 5K Championships, Maloy finished 20th and Boretti took 44th out of over 100 competitors.
Maloy is enrolled at the Georgetown Law School to continue his education, while Boretti will return to Boston College for his junior year of swimming and studying. Maloy's contributions will be missed, but Boretti and the rest of the BC squad are prepared for the challenges of the 2012 season.
