Clemson, S.C. - The Boston College volleyball team was defeated by Clemson in four sets, 24-26, 25-19, 25-13, 26-24, on Friday night in Jervey Gymnasium. Senior Tsvetelina Dureva led the Eagles (6-11, 2-4 ACC) with a .462 hitting percentage behind 15 kills on 26 attempts with just three errors.
The Tigers (12-5, 4-2 ACC) attack proved too much for BC to overcome in tight play. Clemson relied heavily on Moneshia Simmons' .652 attack percentage (16K-1E-23A), as well as Serenat Yaz's .406 (13K-0E-32A) and Kristin Faust .333 (11K-3E-24A).
Middle hitters Krystle Higgins and Melissa McTighe also had efficient nights for the Eagles. Higgins charted a career-high 16 points on a career-mark 14 kills on 25 swings with six errors, while McTighe secured nine kills on 18 attempts with three mishaps.
Senior Brennan Clark led BC with 11 digs and career-best three aces.
Freshman setter Kellie Barnum led all players with 46 assists, orchestrating the Eagles attack that hit .205 on the day.
Boston College utilized its strongest hitting percentage of night (.346) in the first set to battle past a Clemson squad that hit .467 to open the match. The two sides went point-for-point to 18 all, when one of Clark's aces ignited a five-point run by the Eagles. The Tigers responded by taking six of the next seven points to equalize at 24, but a kill from Higgins and an attack error from Adeleye ended the set, 26-24.
The second set also began with the sides trading points to 16 all. On the next play, a block from Adeleye and Karis Watson gave Clemson the lead it did not relinquish in the win, 25-19.
The Tigers ran out to a 15-5 lead and hit .500 to take the third set, 25-13.
BC fell behind, 10-5, to start the fourth, but spurred Clemson's momentum on kills from freshman Courtney Castle and McTighe. Down 18-12, the Eagles looked Dureva, who had seven kills on 10 swings with no errors in the fourth set, to fight back and tie the game at 23. McTighe's kill on the next ball gave the Eagles set point, but Adeleye rattled off a kill and two blocks to close out the match, 26-24.
