CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Recent Boston College graduates John Maloy, Brett Bromann and Megan Tincher earned a newly created distinction from the NCAA. The three swimmers were recipients of the 1A FAR Academic Excellence Award, according to an announcement made by the NCAA on Wednesday.
This award was established by the 1A Faculty Athletics Representatives to recognize student-athlete academic achievement. Recipients must have graduated in the past academic year with at least a 3.80 cumulative grade-point average and have participated in at least two years of intercollegiate athletics at a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) institution in a sport sponsored by a FBS conference.
Maloy was a captain in his senior year and was the Team MVP in each of his four years. He finished his career at BC with 10 school records, and when he graduated, received an ACC and NCAA postgraduate scholarship.
Browmann, a Yorkville, Ill. native, concluded his career at No. 17 on BC's all-time scoring list. As a senior, he received the Athletics Director's Award for Academic Achievement. He was also recognized on the All-ACC Academic Honor Roll during his tenure as an Eagle.
Tincher, who was selected as a senior captain, was a member of the Phi Lamba Theta and Golden Key Honor Societies while at BC. She was also a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative and board member. She was selected to receive the Athletics Director's Award for Academic Achievement and in 2010, was named to the All-ACC Team.
This year's swimming team opens its schedule on October 7 at West Point. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
