Donations to Athletics Continue to Rise

Donor support of Boston College Athletics is stronger than ever. This year, the Athletics Department received cash totaling more than $21 million, a 10% increase from last year's record.
"The most significant expenses incurred annually are salaries and the nearly $14 million required to provide scholarship assistance to our 750 student-athletes. While it is our goal to fully fund each and every one of these scholarships, the Flynn Fund money raised each year allows us to meet these expenses immediately. With continued annual support coupled with raising dollars for endowment and strong investments, we will be able to meet the needs of our student-athletes for years to come." Director of Athletics, Gene DeFilippo remarked. "I want to personally thank every donor who made a gift to BC Athletics during the past year. They help make it happen for our student-athletes."
About the Flynn Fund:
Few priorities are as vital to the mission of Boston College Athletics as financial aid. BC will offer 272 athletic scholarships this year at a cost of nearly $14 million. Scholarships, along with salaries, are the largest annual expenses to the Athletics Department. These scholarships would not be possible without the private support of alumni, parents and friends.
In addition to funding scholarships, the Flynn Fund also contributed to the renovation and upgrade of several facilities this year including: the remodeling of the men's hockey locker room and sports medicine suite, the addition of a press box and Field Turf at the soccer complex on the Newton Campus, as well as the construction of a new boathouse in conjunction with Community Rowing, Inc. to benefit both the men's crew and women's rowing programs.
2007-2008 Flynn Fund Highlights:
• $21 million donated
• 39 commitments of $100,000 or more
• All donors invited to enjoy breakfast with the football team prior to the Spring Game
• All donors invited to exclusive brunch and offered access to tickets for basketball game vs. Kansas
• More than 1,700 donors were thanked directly by one of our student-athletes via telephone
