Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Three Boston College teams - field hockey, football and volleyball - received 2007 Atlantic Coast Conference Fall Sportsmanship Awards, the most by any school in the conference, announced the ACC this morning.
The sportsmanship awards are received by teams who have conducted themselves with a high degree of character and good sportsmanship. They are determined by a vote of the league's players and coaches. Boston College field hockey earned its first award, while football garnished its second straight and volleyball took home its third-consecutive honor.
Other teams receiving awards included Miami men's cross country, Georgia Tech women's cross country, Virginia Tech men's soccer and Duke women's soccer. Four of the five schools recognized are repeat award winners.
The concept of the Sportsmanship awards was created by the ACC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee during the 2003-04 academic year in an effort to recognize teams who earned the utmost regard from their peers during competition. This is the second year in a row that Boston College has won the overall distinction.
